My images are always about love and beauty and the desire for connection. Through fantasy and narrative, and the material nature of embroidery, I find permission to explore imagery and ideas that I have a complicated relationship with.

About the Artist

Sophia Narrett received her BFA from Brown University, Providence, RI, in 2010, and an MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design, Providence, RI, in 2014. Narrett has completed residencies with the Museum of Art and Design Artist Studio Program, New York, NY and the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, Skowhegan, ME; as well as the recipient of the Galerie Emerging Artist Grant; Pollack-Krasner Foundation Grant; Creative Council Grant; and a recent finalist for the prestigious Burke Prize at the Museum of Arts and Design, New York, NY. Narrett is included in the permanent collections of the Art Institute of Chicago, Chicago, IL; Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, MA; The Museum of Arts and Design, New York, NY; Brown University, Providence, RI; CAPP Collection of Contemporary Art at the University of Maryland, College Park, MD; and Rhode Island School of Design Museum, Providence, RI; among others. Recent exhibitions include Soul Kiss, Michael Kohn Gallery, Los Angeles, CA (2020); Women Take the Floor, Museum of Fine Art, Boston, MA (2021); Strings of Desire, Craft Contemporary, Los Angeles, CA (2023); and Carried by Wonder, Perrotin Gallery, New York, NY (2023). Narrett’s work is currently on view at the Flag Art Foundation, New York, NY as part of their “Spotlight Series.” In 2026, Narrett will present her second solo exhibition at Michael Kohn Gallery, Los Angeles, CA.
