Ryan McGinness: Studio Visit
January 31 - April 19, 2015
Ryan McGinness: Studio Visit explores the creative process of a Virginia Beach native and artist. In 2009, the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA) commissioned a work inspired by the museum’s collection. The result is a 16-panel painting containing 200 icons that reference works from the VMFA. We now have an opportunity to see how McGinness conceived and created this stunning work.
There are three parts to this exhibition. The first provides a glimpse of McGinness’ studio practice. Listen to his favorite playlist as you see the artist screenprint the final work! The second shows early artworks he made while growing up in Virginia Beach. Finally, you can see some of the objects McGinness chose from the VMFA museum collection with his sketches and final image.
This exhibition has been organized by the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, in collaboration with Ryan McGinness. This exhibition is made possible in part by support from The Capital Group Companies and Vicom.
